FOTOGALERIE WIEN / Bildraum 01
Since 2010 the FOTOGALERIE WIEN has put on an annual solo exhibition showcasing the work of a young, upcoming artist. This series of exhibitions, SOLO, functions as a platform and springboard for artists who are at the beginning of their career but who already have an extensive body of work that we want to present to a wider public. The aim is to achieve a sustainable level of public presence for the chosen artist and includes helping to organize cooperations and touring shows. For SOLO XIV we proudly present the artist Laura Sperl.
Diving into the core of the artist book „NOON“ by Laura Sperl: lots of different colours, traces of sea water, sand and sun inscribed in photographic paper. Processes of change fixed in photo-/chemigrams and digital photography on almost 100 pages. Take the opportunity to immerse yourself in a projection in space and know more about the work while enjoying a refreshing drink to welcome summer in Vienna!
The FOTOGALERIE WIEN is a non-profit organization organized as an association for the advancement of artistic photography and new media. The collective acts as an information gallery running independently from trends set by the commercial mainstream. The goals today remain the same as they when the association was initially established in 1981: to present contemporary art photography, interdisciplinary projects, and new media while responding directly to current themes, pressing issues, and discourses. Curatorial practice is a vital characteristic of the FOTOGALERIE WIEN. Together, the team – currently consisting of 11 artists and art historians – curates exhibitions born from a pool of numerous artist submissions as well as from collected ideas, the objective being to reflect upon current issues and trends in art. The FOTOGALERIE WIEN will be on tour until autumn 2023: Due to renovation and reconstruction the FOTOGALERIE WIEN, our exhibitions will be shown at friendly institutions at home and abroad. Our last host in Austria is the Bildraum 01, with which we are presenting Laura Sperl SOLO XIV.
